Tie Dye at the Park

 Hello Artists,

For our last week of art we will be making tie dye shirts that can be worn on the last day of school. This is a CSCS end of the year tradition and I am very excited it can happen this year, although it will look a little different than past years. I have created two videos with all the details you need to know to tie dye with us at the park. If you are not joining in park days, you can still participate in the tie dye activity at home. Check out details here: Tie Dye at Home.
Watch the video below and read through the reminders for park days tie dye event.

Tie Dye Park Schedule:
5/27 Thursday- 3rd, 4th and 5th grade
6/3 Thursday-  Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd grade
6/4 Friday- 6th, 7th and 8th grade
DRESS IN CLOTHING YOU CAN GET MESSY IN FOR TIE DYE PARK DAY!

Tie Dye Steps to do at Home:
  1. Choose a light colored shirt to bring to the park for tie dye. It is OK if it is not a solid color (great options are camp t-shirts or an old light colored, it does not have to be white.)
  2. The night before or morning of park day, get the shirt completely soaked with water and wring out as much as possible.
  3. Using the rubber band picture guide choose a tie dye style and rubber band the shirt accordingly (rubber bands are in art kit.)
  4. Place the shirt in the large ziplock bag that your art supplies went home in. With a sharpie label the bag with your name and bring to the park with you.
  5. You will be bringing home your shirt soaked in dye. Below are the washing instructions to follow:

Tie Dye Washing Instructions:

Keep in bag for 24 hours.  In a sink or bathtub rinse shirt thoroughly with cold water. Untie or remove rubber bands and rinse again until water runs clear. Wash separately in washing machine on warm setting.  Use little to no detergent (make sure detergent does not contain bleach.)  After initial washing it will be color safe. Never use bleach on your tie dye shirt.
