5/12 Art 6-8

Hello Artists,
Last week we started our collage bird art inspired by artist, Elizabeth St Hilaire. You should have created an abstract background using paint. This week we will finish this artwork by creating an image of a bird using newspaper and other paper scraps you may have at home.

Before we get started check out the time lapse video of Elizabeth St Hilaire creating a work of art.

The painting I have chosen to be our inspiration for this project is one of a Florida crane. Use both her painting above as well as the photo of the bird to reference as you follow the steps below.

Supplies:

-9x12 background painting (from last week)

-newspaper

-glue stick

-pencil

-red, black and white paint

-paint brush and water cup

-white paper

-markers or colored pencils

Instructions:

1. Draw an outline of the bird lightly with pencil onto your background painting.

2. Tear the newspaper into small pieces and use a glue stick to fill in the entire bird with the newspaper.

3. Watch the video above for instructions on how to paint your Florida crane.

4. Draw a small eye to add to your bird on white paper, color, cut out and glue onto the bird.

This assignment is due 5/19. Please email finished work to me at melissaallen@thecottonwoodschool.org.

I can't wait to see what you create!
