4/7 Art 6-8

 Hello Artists,

This week we will learn about the incredible artist, Georgia O'Keeffe. Who found inspiration through nature all around her.

Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist. She was best known for her large paintings of nature, especially flowers and bones. Georgia was born on November 15, 1887, near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and died in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on March 6, 1986. She grew up on a dairy farm and received art lessons at home. Some of Georgia's most famous paintings were of large flowers and plants. Her paintings of flowers were very colorful and often showed close up details of the flower. The most striking feature of these paintings was the size of the flower and the vivid colors. Georgia found so much inspiration in nature.

Watch the video below to learn more about Georgia O'Keeffe and her style of painting.

Supplies:
-sketchbook
-pencil with eraser

Instructions:
Study some of Georgia O'Keeffe's paintings above. Notice the details she includes to make the flower appear very close up. Today you will be practicing to draw flowers and natural objects in this same way. Find something to use for observation. Maybe something in your yard, a flower, a house plant, a rock or crystal. Spend time observing your object and noticing the details you see when looking very closely at it. In your sketchbook draw your natural object on a very large scale, making sure to include the small details and shadows. Next week we will start our Georgia O'Keefe inspired large poppy piece.

I can't wait to see what you create!
