4/7 Art K-2

Hello Artists!
This week we will be learning about an amazing artist who was inspired by the beautiful things that surrounded her in nature.

Georgia O’Keeffe was an American artist. She was best known for her large paintings of nature, especially flowers and bones. Georgia was born on November 15, 1887, near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin and died in Santa Fe, New Mexico, on March 6, 1986. She grew up on a dairy farm and received art lessons at home. Some of Georgia's most famous paintings were of large flowers and plants. Her paintings of flowers were very colorful and often showed close up details of the flower. The most striking feature of these paintings was the size of the flower and the vivid colors. Georgia found so much inspiration in nature.

To learn more about Georgia O'Keeffe listen to the book, My Name is Georgia, a Portrait by Jeanette Winter and then study some of Georgia's paintings below.

Supplies:
-sketchbook
-pencil with eraser
-crayons

Instructions:
Today you will be practicing to draw large flowers in your sketchbook. Look at some of the real life photos of flowers below and pay attention to the small details you see when we are looking so close up to a flower. Using a pencil practice drawing flowers really big like Georgia O'Keeffe did. It's OK if they are so big that the petals go right off your page! Use crayons to color your flowers.

I can't wait to see what you create!
