Hello Artists,
Last week we started our story quilts inspired by Black American artist, Faith Ringgold. This week we will continue to work on these, but first listen to Faith Ringgold's read aloud of her 1991 children’s book, Tar Beach.
Faith Ringgold is a painter, mixed media sculptor, teacher, lecturer and author of numerous award winning children’s books. Ringgold has consistently challenged perceptions of African American identity and gender inequality through the lenses of the feminist and the civil rights movements. As cultural assumptions and prejudices persist, her ground-breaking work retains its contemporary resonance.

What is a story quilt?
A quilt is a covering that is made up of scraps of fabric, or other materials, that are sewn together. A story quilt is a type of quilt with pictures, sound, scents and textures that are used to tell a story. It can tell the story of a specific event, moment, or feeling in your life, or it can tell a story that you come up with in your imagination.
