1/6 Art 3-5

Hello Artists,

This week in art we will be creating a background which will be used next week for our snowman project. We will be using white oil pastel to create snowflakes and watercolors to create a sky. When you use watercolors with oil pastel you create what is called RESIST art. Resist, means that the oil pastel will repel the watercolor away from it. So, even if you paint right on top of your snowflakes the paint will not cover them.

Supplies:

-painting paper

-white oil pastel or crayon

-watercolor paints

-paint brush

-water cup

Instructions:

1. Use the oil pastel to create snowflakes on your paper. You can use swirls, stars and polka dots.

2. Paint over the entire sheet of paper to create a winter sky. Your snowflakes will appear, this is called resist art since we are using an oil pastel with watercolor paint.

3. Keep your painting in your art folder until next week. This will be our background for our snowman project.

*If you do not have a white oil pastel or crayon you will receive one at the supply pick up on January 8th and can complete this step after that.

I can't wait to see what you create!

💜

Melissa
