1/20 Art 3-5

Hello Artists,

Now that we have talked some about perspective in art and created our snowman from a bird's eye view, I have another project for you using the same concept, but from the perspective of a bug. This time instead of imagining you are way up high looking down on the world, you will be way down low looking up into the world.

Remember that perspective is a word that is used to describe what you see from where you are. As an artists’ tool, perspective helps us understand what we see from where we sit or stand, and how to draw the objects that we see in a way that someone else can look at our drawing and feel like they are in the same room as we are, looking at the same objects!

To get started, I thought it would be fun to watch a short clip from the movie, A Bug's Life. While you are watching be sure to observe what the animator did to make you see the world through a bug's view.

Supplies:

-sketchbook or white paper
-pencil with eraser

Instructions:

1. Brainstorm ideas for your bug's view drawing. You could explore your yard and get low to the ground to get a good perspective of a bug yourself. Think about the places you see bugs; an ant stopping by at a picnic, a spider hanging from a tree, a fly on your wall or a bee super close to a flower in your yard. There are many options- get creative!

2. Use objects in your home or yard for observation while you draw.

3. If you'd like to draw a rough sketch first to brainstorm ideas that is great. Once you are ready to draw your final draft use a pencil and draw lightly so you can easily erase mistakes.

4. Keep your art in a safe spot. We will add color next week.

I can't wait to see what you create!

💜

Melissa
