12/2 Art 6-8


Hello Artists, 

We have been making our way through the elements of art and this week we will learn about VALUE. To start watch the video above.

WHAT IS VALUE?

Value is an element of design defined as the LIGHTS and DARKS in an artwork.  Value can refer to black, white and ranges of grays or it can refer to color and the lights (tints) and darks (shades) of that color.

Artists use values to translate the light and shadows they see into shading, thus creating the illusion of a third-dimension.

A full range of values is the basic ingredient for a realistically shaded drawing.  When you shade a drawing using many values- from white to black and all the grays in between- you will add depth and realism to your image.

Supplies:
-charcoal stick (went home in art kit)
-Elements of Art Value worksheet (in art folder)
Instructions:
This week you will practice using value in art by completing the VALUE worksheet in your art folder. Watch the video above for more instructions. We will use these techniques in art next week.
*If you do not have your charcoal stick you can use a pencil.

4/21 Art K-2

  Hello Artists,  This week we will finish our poppy art inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. Today we are adding the wonderful details that we would see when we look close up at the flower, just like Georgia would. Take a look at the photos below of Georgia's poppy painting and a real poppy before we get started.  Poppy Instructions   (SafeShare link) Supplies: -flower shape (from last week) -black oil pastel -green construction paper -school glue -scissors -green crayon or marker Instructions: Today we will add the final touches to our poppy art. Gather your supplies and work along with me as you watch the video.  *Attention grown-ups: Please email a photo of your students finished artwork to me at melissaallen@thecottonwoodschool.org in order for it to be included in the spring virtual art show. 5/26 1st and 2nd Grade

  Hello 1st and 2nd Graders, Last week we started our salmon project by painting the cardboard cutouts. Today we will add some final details to complete your artwork.  Salmon pt2 (SafeShare link) Supplies: -cardboard salmon cutout -black and white oil pastel or crayon -school glue -googly eye Instructions: Today you will be adding the last details to your spawning salmon. You can use crayons or oil pastels (from previous lessons) to work today. You should also find a large googly eye in your art kit that you will add using school glue.
