Hello Artists, 

This week in art we will learn about and be inspired by Portuguese street artist Artur Bordalo, known by the nickname Bordalo II. Bordalo is an artist who collects “waste” and “trash” to create, recreate and assemble and develop works related to sustainability, ecological and social awareness. 
He draws attention to wastefulness by creating massive vibrant animals out of discarded plastic, car parts, and other trash – and the whimsical designs are unlike anything you’ve ever seen.

This week you will begin a recycled art project inspired by Artur Bordalo. To start think about the following:

  • What message do you hope to portray through your recycled art project?
  • What kind of materials can you use? Check your recycling and trash for interesting things that can be used in your work.
This project is a two part lesson. This week please complete these two steps:

1. Collect materials to use in your work. Some ideas are:

Styrofoam: egg cartons, packing peanuts; food containers; meat trays

Cardboard: food boxes, paper boxes, corrugated boxes, ice cream containers, drink trays

Plastics: soap containers, lotion bottles, shampoo bottles, laundry bottles & lids, plastic shopping Bags, soda 6-pack rings

Aluminum: soda cans, clean/used tin foil, food wrapper linings 

Paper: shredded paper, envelopes, letters, junk mail,

Odds & Ends: CD’s, broken pieces of furniture, chipped plates/mugs, jewelry pieces

Wire: old coat hangars, twist ties from garbage bags

Nylon: clean, used panty hose

Metals: nuts & bolts, screws, soda tabs/lids

Fabric: old tablecloths, sheets, scrap fabric swatches, torn clothing, old curtains


2. After you have collected your materials make a rough idea sketch of what you would like to build.

This assignment is due on Friday 11/20. We do not have art next week, although I would encourage you to start building your art piece before our next art class on 11/18.

4/21 Art K-2

  Hello Artists,  This week we will finish our poppy art inspired by Georgia O'Keeffe. Today we are adding the wonderful details that we would see when we look close up at the flower, just like Georgia would. Take a look at the photos below of Georgia's poppy painting and a real poppy before we get started.  Poppy Instructions   (SafeShare link) Supplies: -flower shape (from last week) -black oil pastel -green construction paper -school glue -scissors -green crayon or marker Instructions: Today we will add the final touches to our poppy art. 5/26 1st and 2nd Grade

  Hello 1st and 2nd Graders, Last week we started our salmon project by painting the cardboard cutouts. Today we will add some final details to complete your artwork.  Salmon pt2 (SafeShare link) Supplies: -cardboard salmon cutout -black and white oil pastel or crayon -school glue -googly eye Instructions: Today you will be adding the last details to your spawning salmon. You can use crayons or oil pastels (from previous lessons) to work today. You should also find a large googly eye in your art kit that you will add using school glue.
