11/18 Art 6th grade

Hello Artists,

Last time in art we learned about artist, Angélica Dass and her internationally acclaimed Humanae Project, a collection of portraits that reveal the diverse beauty of human colors. This week we will use the skin color paper you made last week to continue our project inspired by Angélica Dass.

To start, listen to at least 3 of the student pieces from the book The Best Part of Me by Wendy Ewald from the read aloud below.

We will be creating "the best part of you" drawings this week.

Supplies:

-skin color paper (that you made in our last class)
-pencil
-black sharpie

Instructions:

  1. After listening to some of the students work from the book The Best Part of Me make a list of 5-7 features you like about yourself. Then choose one of those features to draw and write about.
  2. Draw the feature you chose on the skin color paper you made last week. Use pencil and draw lightly so you can easily erase mistakes. Your drawing should take up at least half or more of your paper. These drawings can be as simple as an outline of your feature or more elaborate with many details.
  3. The last part to this project will be to add a creative writing piece to your art. This can be in the form of a poem, a song, a list of descriptive words or even just a sentence. Your writing should describe and explain why you chose this feature. Incorporate your writing into your art. It can be a part of the drawing or on another area of your paper. Get creative with the placement of your words.
  4. The last step will be to outline all of your work (drawings and words) in black sharpie. If you have small details you may want to use a fine tip sharpie.
This completed assignment is due Friday 11/20. Please share your final art piece with me through email at melissaallen@thecottonwoodschool.org
