9/23 6-8 Art

Hello Artists,

This week you will use the "Who I Am" worksheets you worked on last week for inspiration to design a cover for your art folder that represents you. You can draw a self portrait, a collage, word art, doodle or even use your name with symbols. It is up to you as long as the art represents who you are. Someone who doesn't know you should be able to look at your art folder and be able to discover some important things about you.

To start, watch the video above on identity and art. In this short film, see how artists Frida Kahlo, Glenn Ligon, and Andy Warhol investigate and express ideas about identity in their work.

Take a look at some student work below before getting started.

Supplies:

art folder (in art kit)

pencil

markers, crayons or colored pencils

Instructions:

  1. Look over your "Who I Am" worksheet and think about the following as you begin your identity drawing:
    • What aspects of your identity are most important to you?
    • Why are these things an important part of defining who you are?
    • What do you hope others will learn about you when viewing your art?
  2. Start with a pencil to design your art folder cover.
  3. Make sure you are adding things that represent you. You can draw things that represent a hobby you have, your family, where you are from. It's up to you. Just be sure your drawings tell something about who you are.
  4. Last thing to do is add some color!
This assignment is due by Wednesday 9/30. Photos of completed projects can be emailed to me at melissaallen@thecottonwoodschool.org.

Smile, create and be awesome!
💜
Melissa
